Recycle Bin Easter Bunnies

Recycle bin bunnies are a fun decoration for people that have very little space.

After Easter, there is no guilt in tossing this little buddy back into the recycling bin, that's where he came from!
I invented them while house/dog sitting for my Aunt Jennifer on spring break in college.  At the end of the week, I made a 'thank you' basket with cookies and chocolate to leave on the table, but it didn't look very exciting.  With a little news paper and a plastic bag, I came up with this paper bunny.  As you are aware, every basket looks five times better with a bunny in it, and she could throw it away after Easter without feeling bad.

You will need:
newspaper
stapler
markers
plastic bag
scissors

Start by drawing a simple bunny shape on a folded sheet of newspaper.  Make it chubby with very few details.  Don't make this too hard on yourself; too many details will make make the project take longer than it needs to.

Cut out the shape (you should have a front & a back) and staple a seam about 1/2 inch from the edge of the paper. Staple halfway around the bunny.

Tear another sheet of paper into strips, crumple it up and gently tuck them into the bunny shape.

Staple carefully around the edges.  If you happen to tear the paper, just patch it up with more staples.  If that doesn't work, don't be afraid to whip out the tape.  There's no shame in that.

Ta-Da! A bunny!

Use markers to add a face and heart.  If you want to give your bunny a pattern, I suggest using highlighters because the newsprint is still visible.

Cut a plastic grocery bag into strips.  Any color will work, but if you can hunt down a pretty Easter colored bag, that's even better.

Tie the strip around your bunny's neck to make a big festive bow.

When the holiday is over, just toss them back in the recycle bin and make new ones next year!
