Pixie Dust Necklace (DIY)

Whenever you find yourself with nothing to do on a summer afternoon, here's a suggestion: go to a Renaissance Fair.  If you've never been, you are missing out; its like participating in a giant medieval play.

Yesterday, I went with a group of girls to the Michigan Renaissance Festival in Holly and it was so much fun.  You can eat gigantic chicken legs, put people in jail, and buy really elaborate costumes.  Some people live for this kind of thing: well made, detailed costumes run in the high hundreds - or even over a thousand dollars!
I jump at any opportunity to dress up and act goofy, but as you know, none of my regular clothing costs that much, let alone a costume.  A few years ago I made a dress out of old curtains for Halloween costumes (or opportunities like this one).  I'm no seamstress, so mine looks a little wonky, but it works.

The fair vendors also sell oils, weapons, boots, masks, and jewelry.  One item that I discovered in many of the shops (maybe it's kind of a Ren Fair staple) was a pixie dust necklace.  Each little necklace consisted of a tiny glass vial filled with 'pixie dust' and a chain or cord to hang around the buyer's neck.  I also noticed dozens of ladies wearing these necklaces along with their corsets, belly dancing veils, and royal attire.  Immediately, I thought of the set of glitter filled glass bottles at DollarTree in the nail section.  Good news: you can easily make a cute pixie dust necklace for crazy cheap with dollar store supplies and wear it to a Renaissance Fair, or just anywhere.
Here's how:

You will need:
1 pack of Donna Michelle glitter bottles for nails
Cord, ribbon or chain (I'm using jute twine)
Super Glue (the gel kind works best)
Without opening the bottle, ad a teeny tiny dot of glue around the lid to secure it to the bottle.
If too much glue comes out, quickly wipe it off with a paper towel.  Allow it to harden for at least five minutes.  From what I understand, the glue releases fumes when it hardens.  If you open the bottle to glue on your lid, the inside will fog up and become difficult to see through.
Cut the cord or ribbon to your desired length, thread through the hole in the lid and tie.

Now your gorgeous pixie dust necklace is ready to wear.  This may be the easiest tutorial I've ever done!
