I'm on a mission to participate in as many summer activities as I can before sweater season - especially going to the beach.
On the shore by Grand Haven is my favorite secret little beach called Rosy Mounds Natural Area. What makes this beach so wonderful is a 0.7 mile nature walk through the woods from the parking lot to the beach.
A gravel trail winds through the forest with wooden stairs (and lots of them) dotted with lookout areas and benches.
The forest is so quiet and peaceful. I'm always amazed when I think of how this place is only 30 minutes away from the loud, busy city of Grand Rapids.
For most people, hiking to the beach is out of the question, leaving this sandy paradise practically vacant.
The water was clear and blue and warm. We spent the afternoon reading in the sun, combing the beach for little treasures and walking the trails.
It was an amazing day.
