New Years Card (DIY)

Happy New Years!
This year, Instead of mailing Christmas cards to my friends and loved ones, I am sending New Years cards. Why, you ask?  Because I think it's fun and different... aaaaand also because I ran out of time to do this before Christmas.

Miniature Paint and Brushes (DIY)

As I've mentioned in previous posts, I have been working on the weekends at a certain popular toy store for many, many years.
I finally quit - and my last day was just a week before Black Friday. Lucky me!

Recycled Bunting Postcard (DIY)

I have lived in Colorado just over a year now.
The mountains are breathtaking and the people are friendly, but I miss Michigan.

Thrift Store Friday #52 ~ 3 Ways to Wear a Lace Pencil Skirt

In May, I wrote a tutorial that explained how to make curtains from the thrift store into a lovely lace pencil skirt.  Sooooo...lets just say that you ran out, bought some curtains from the Arc and made one.
Now what?

Quote Bookmark (DIY)

"Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.
And then there are books like An Imperial Affliction, which you can't tell people about, books so special and rare and yours that advertising your affection feels like betrayal."

Happy Birthday - Let's Recycle

My birthday was last week (yay!) and I was blessed with so many amazing gifts, cards, texts and phone calls from my loved ones.  One of my very favorite gifts was a surprise subscription to Birchbox from Patrick.  Lucky me!!!!

Scrabble Tile Keychain (DIY)

These key chains are crazy simple to make.
I handed these out as favors at a baby shower last spring.  This may be one of the simplest tutorials so far!

Earth Day Quote Tank (DIY)

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world..."   -Mahatma Gandhi

I have always loved this quote because its a call for action - and its very fitting for Earth Day.

Easter Clearance

I looooove clearance shopping after a major holiday.
Not just for the candy (you know I love my candy), but also for all those useful little things in the markdown bin.  Its kind of like a game: the How Could I Use this Holiday Themed Item All Year game.  I did pretty well in January (Five Ideas for Everyday Decorating with Holiday Clearance Items), so lets play again.

3 Easy Ways to Update Old Jewelry

Earth Day is kind of a big deal for Shades of Tangerine because, as you probably know by now, earth-friendly projects are what its all about here.  Recycling can be more than just collecting cans and bottles: it presents an opportunity to think out of the box - especially when it comes to clothing and fashion.  Anyone can buy a brand new purse or necklace, but it takes a bit of extra effort and craftiness to recycle your style.

Around the World Postcards (DIY)

Recently, I read Around the World in Eighty Days, a classic novel written by Jules Verne.  It left me with the overwhelming desire to hop on a train or ship and travel the world like the wealthy Mr. Fogg.  Since I can't exactly do that, I have to settle for seeing all of the interesting places close to home.

Thrift Store Friday # 51 ~ 25 Outfits From 9 Pieces

Many things changed when I moved here to Colorado. One big change: no Goodwill Outlet Center. Very sad.  I have branched out and explored other thrift stores, so Good{will outlet} Friday will now be called Thrift Store Friday. So here's my first Thrift Store Friday post: 25 outfits made from 9 pieces.

Allow me to tell you about one of the most unexpected and fun experiences I’ve ever had. It involves football, fate, and one of my favorite stores…

Pet Shaming and The Broncos

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!
Meet my kitty, Puma - my first (and probably only) victim of pet shaming.  She's kind of a food whore, like, once she took a pita out of my Chipotle bag and dragged it under the bed to eat it shamelessly and alone.  For the record - I don't think there's a single ingredient in pita bread that normal cats care about.  In this charming photo, you can see where she licked my Broncos cupcake.  Thanks for that, Puma.

Arrow Wallet (DIY)

I absolutely love making these little felt wallets: they're cute, simple, and just big enough to hold a few vital cards (originally made for a post inspired by the book Phantom Tollbooth).  Maybe because of Valentines day, or because I just watched The Three Musketeers last night, I was really into embellishing them with arrows. The heads and tails of these arrows are actually little metallic iron-on heart shaped studs from My Next Style.

Gummy Fruit Tray (DIY)

Here's what I'm bringing on Super Bowl Sunday: a gummy fruit tray.  That's right: I'll be the classiest, most health conscious guest there, or at least I'll be the funniest.  Its a quick inexpensive treat to throw together, and I doubt anyone else will happen to show up with the same dish.

Monogram Keychain (DIY)

We all have that one special friend that loses everything - everything - from her purse to her keys to her phone.  She is loved, buuuuut......this gets old.  I present to you the ideal handmade gift for said friend: a neon monogram keychain that glows in the dark.  Not only is it cute, but this is about as practical as a DIY project can get.

Five Ideas for Everyday Decorating with Holiday Clearance Items

Before moving from Michigan to Colorado, I sold almost all of my belongings in a huge yard sale, except for a handful of boxes in storage and anything we could squeeze into the car.  I've been waiting quietly for after-Christmas clearance sales.  My objective was to find discounted Christmas items that could pass as year round decor.  Here are five ways to take advantage of Christmas clearance.

Hash Tag Tee (DIY) ~ News Year's Resolution

Welcome to the new year!
Its a fresh start! If you happen to be the ambitious type (or, like me, you just want to be ambitious), this is your day to make resolutions and share them with your friends, family, and anyone in the world of social media that will listen.
